The Tauren Boro tank is available in five colours (stainless steel, silver black, matte black, gunmetal, and gold) and comes in a nice presentation box with your Boro tank clearly displayed. I was sent the Gold version for review which would normally be an instant turn off but this actually has a slightly tarnished finish which means it’s not too gaudy, in fact I quite like the finish here, and in most Boro devices it isn’t going to be visible in any case.

As is usually the case with Thunderhead Creations, there are plenty of spares included with two premade Ni80 coils (which I can’t use) and cotton, so apart from e-liquid (and a Boro device obviously), you have everything you need in the box. One glaring omission is a Spare tank section but these are available separately should the need arise, and as this is a modern PCTG tank, you shouldn’t really have any issues.

Looking around the Tauren Boro tank, we have the large PCTG tank up top which utilizes a modern fill bung design and this can actually be filled from either the front or the side making it quite versatile depending on the design of your Boro mod. Around the lower section we have an airflow adjustment ring for the honeycomb air inlets which can be slid upwards to restrict the airflow should you find the need to do so. Up top, we have the negative 510 nut, and down below there’s a large positive section.

The 3.5ml tank section and chimney section can be removed by unscrewing the 510 nut connector at the top for easy cleaning. With this removed, you can see that the e-liquid is fed down to the build deck via four wicking ports on either side of the chimney.

With the build deck removed, you can once again see those wicking ports on the side of the build deck which feed down to the channels at the base of the deck and the side honeycomb airflow. The build deck itself features a post less design with side airflow and is held securely in place with two O-rings so there’s no danger of this falling apart whilst inserting or removing the Tauren Boro tank from your mod.

The build deck is in fact held in place so well by these O-rings that you’ll almost certainly need to access the integrated 510 connector at the base and use a mod to easily separate it from the tank. The large nut at the base here seems to be largely decorative as the Tauren Boro tank will work just fine without it in place, I guess it does add a degree of protection to the threads though which can only be a good thing.

Fitting a coil is a doodle with the postless deck design. Simply pre-cut the coil legs to the suggested 5mm length with the included tool, pop the coil in and tighten down the screws. The coil above is a standard 3mm inner diameter coil so there’s plenty of room here as well.
Whilst the wicking ports initially seem fairly large, once you start trying to fit your cotton, you’ll quickly discover that this isn’t the case and they’re actually fairly small. This is one area where I’ve struggled with the Tauren Boro tank, it wicks well enough with bubbles consistently forming and great flavour, but I’ve found myself having to rewick roughly every two days as the centre of the cotton starts to burn…I’ve tried thinning the cotton and the old diamond cut trick and still haven’t found a perfect solution, I’ve even have had a couple of instances where I’ve gone too far and ended up with a leaky tank (no full on tank dumps though).
As the airflow in most Boro devices will largely come from either the front or one side, I suspect that the airflow will predominantly be coming from one side, particularly in the Centaurus B80 that I tested this in. As a result, I found that running the airflow fully open was my best option. If you have a Boro device with a more open design, then the adjustable airflow might be more useful.
Pros
- Easy to build
- good flavour
- budget friendly
Cons
- Difficult to get the wicking right
Conclusion
The Thunderhead Creations Tauren Boro tank is a good option for anyone looking for a direct lung Boro rebuildable, and I’m sure this is something I will continue to come back to. It does get a bit frustrating having to rewick every other day, and I think next time I rebuild this, I’ll try a smaller 2.5mm inner diameter coil which should hopefully reduce this issue.
